Owning a Cybertruck: upkeep, warranty, recalls and charging

The Cybertruck is a Tesla, but it is not just a big Model Y. It has its own maintenance list, its own warranty terms and a longer recall history than the cars, and its stainless body changes how you think about dents and repairs.

Start here

  1. Choose a trim for the towing and range you need, using Tesla's configurator figures.
  2. Put the HEPA filter (every 2 years), A/C desiccant and tire rotation on your service calendar.
  3. Check open recalls by VIN, and plan covered parking for hail and summer heat.

The 2026 lineup

Prices were read from the tesla.com configurator for a Plano, Texas delivery address, cash view, before taxes and fees. They are prices as of October 2026.

TrimPrice (as of October 2026)
Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive$74,990
Premium All-Wheel Drive$84,990
Cyberbeast$99,990

For the Premium AWD, the configurator lists 325 miles of EPA range, 11,000 lb of towing capacity and 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds. The EPA lists both the 2026 Dual Motor AWD and AWD versions at 325 miles. We could not find an EPA listing for the Cyberbeast, and we only confirmed the towing figure for the Premium, so we are not quoting range or towing for the other trims. Check the configurator for the exact truck you are looking at.

The Premium has bed outlets (two 120 V and one 240 V), cabin outlets and adaptive air suspension. A $3,000 Terrestrial Armor Package adds an underbody battery shield and rock sliders, which is worth knowing if you plan to use ranch roads or trails.

Warranty

  • Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty: 4 years or 50,000 miles.
  • Airbags and restraints: 5 years or 60,000 miles.
  • Battery and drive unit: 8 years or 150,000 miles, with at least 70% capacity retention.

One difference from the cars: Tesla says its Extended Service Agreements are offered for the Model S, X, 3 and Y, and it does not list the Cybertruck. Cyberbeasts ordered between August 21, 2025 and February 19, 2026 came with Tesla's Luxe Package, which includes four years of recommended maintenance. If you are buying one of those secondhand, ask Tesla whether the package carries over; we could not confirm that it does.

Maintenance is different

Most of Tesla's schedule matches the cars, but the filters and A/C service do not:

  • No standard cabin air filter. The truck relies on its HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter instead.
  • HEPA filter every 2 years, or every year if you drive off-road or on dirt roads. Gravel county roads count.
  • A/C desiccant bag every 8 years.
  • Tire rotation every 6,250 miles, or sooner if tread depths differ by 2/32 inch or more.
  • Brake fluid test every 4 years. Tesla names towing heavy trailers as a reason to check it more often.
  • Alignment when the truck pulls or wears tires unevenly, and after new tires.
If you tow a trailer to the lake most summer weekends, treat the brake fluid and tire checks as more frequent than the schedule says.

The truck's own record lives at Controls > Service > Maintenance. Tires on a vehicle this heavy are a real cost; our EV tires guide explains load ratings and what to look for.

Recalls

The Cybertruck has more recalls than the cars, and 2024 trucks carry the most. These are from NHTSA's records:

  • 18-inch steel wheels, 2024-2026 (26V255000). Brake rotor stud holes may crack; rotors, hubs and lug nuts are replaced. Owner letters were due around June 20, 2026.
  • Drive inverter, 2024 (24V832000). Possible loss of drive power; the inverter is replaced.
  • Accelerator pedal pad, 2024 (24V276000). The pad could come loose and trap the pedal; repaired or replaced.
  • Light bar and cant rail, 2024-2025 (25V170000). The light bar can delaminate; the cant rail is replaced.
  • Service-installed off-road light bar, 2024 (25V735000). Wrong primer; the bar is re-secured or replaced.
  • Bed trim applique (24V457000) and wiper motor (24V456000), both 2024.
  • Software fixes: rear camera delay (24V718000), tire pressure monitoring (TPMS) warning light (24V935000) and too-bright front parking lights (25V699000).

Check any VIN in our recall lookup, then book open hardware recalls in the Tesla app.

Charging

The Cybertruck uses the NACS port (North American Charging Standard, the Tesla plug). Tesla says it adds up to 137 miles in 15 minutes at a Supercharger, which is the slowest of the current lineup in miles added, simply because a truck uses more energy per mile. Plan road-trip stops with that in mind; our Texas road trips guide covers the main routes.

At home, a Wall Connector at 48 A on a 60 A breaker adds up to 30 miles of range per hour (Tesla quotes this for the Premium AWD). For a truck, that is the setup worth having, since a slower outlet means long overnight sessions after a towing day. The circuit, panel check and permit are for a licensed electrician; start with our home charging guide and the charger planning tool.

Powershare (Tesla's name for using the truck's battery to power other things). The truck can feed power to a house through Tesla's Universal Home Charger & Gateway bundle, listed at $1,970 in the configurator as of October 2026. It needs a certified installer. For Texas owners who remember the February 2021 blackouts, this is the one Tesla that can back up a home directly; see our winter storm prep guide for the rest of a freeze plan.

Texas notes

  • Stainless and hail. Stainless dents and scratches are harder to repair than painted panels. Covered parking matters as much as on any car, and before you buy, ask a local body shop whether it works on Cybertruck panels. Our hail season guide helps, and the directory lists collision shops in DFW, Houston, Austin or San Antonio.
  • Parking. Measure your garage and check any parking structure you use daily. The truck is large, and the garage is your best hail and heat protection.
  • Summer heat. Leave the truck plugged in when parked in July and August so cabin and battery cooling draw from the wall. More in Texas heat.
  • Used trucks. Confirm each hardware recall by VIN, especially the inverter on 2024 trucks and the rotor and hub replacement on steel wheels. Ask about HEPA filter changes and how much off-road use it has seen, and inspect the bed, tonneau and panels in daylight.

Local notes

  • DFW: NWS Fort Worth says large hail hits somewhere in the Metroplex nearly every year, mostly in spring. Plan covered parking before the season.
  • Houston: if the truck has been in flood water, do not drive it or plug it in. NHTSA says a flood-damaged EV should not be parked in a garage or within 50 feet of a structure. See the Houston page.
  • Austin: hail is not only a spring risk. On September 24, 2023, a storm dropped hail up to 4 inches across Round Rock, according to NWS. See the Austin page.
  • San Antonio: on April 12, 2016, a storm dropped hail up to 4.5 inches across the north side of the city, according to NWS. See the San Antonio page.
