About Range & Road

Range & Road is run by a Dallas–Fort Worth family that drives a Model Y and a 2016 Model X every day.

The guides here are practical: what is worth buying, what to skip, and what to ask a shop. When we have tried something ourselves, we say so. When we have not, we say that too.

The site covers 4 Texas metros: Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and San Antonio. We live in DFW, and that is where our own driving comes from. The Houston, Austin and San Antonio guides and their directory listings are researched from official and primary sources, not from local experience, and they say so.

We may earn a commission from some product links; it never changes what we recommend. Shop introductions are free for you and for the shop; we don't charge referral fees at present. See the affiliate disclosure.

How we work

Visit counts

We count page views ourselves to see which guides help: the page, the site you came from, and phone or desktop. There are no cookies, no advertising or analytics companies, and no IP addresses are stored. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is counted.

How guides are researched

Each guide is written from official and primary sources: Tesla's own support pages and owner's manuals, Texas state and city government sites, the National Weather Service, NHTSA, utilities and regulators. Every source is listed at the end of the guide, with the month we checked it.

What the labels mean

  • Research-based: built from those sources, not from our own testing. Every guide on the site carries this label today.
  • Firsthand testing: would mean we used the product or did the procedure ourselves, on our own cars. No guide carries this label yet; when one does, it will say what we did.
  • From our garage: a short, dated note from our own Model Y or Model X, shown on a guide only when we have published one.

How products are chosen

Accessory suggestions, including the ones from the accessory finder, come from a short list we maintain ourselves. An item is there for the problem it solves, not for a commission. Where a link can earn us money, the page says so.

How the directory is checked

Each listing is checked on the business's own website, and each card shows the month it was checked. Claims such as "works on Teslas" are shown as what the business says, not as our endorsement. Listings are free and nobody pays for placement.

Updates and re-checks

A guide's "Updated" date changes when we make a substantial update: new facts, changed advice or a new section. Routine re-checks, where we confirm the sources still say the same thing, show up in the "checked" dates in the source list and do not change the Updated date.

Corrections

Spot a mistake? Email vikasauto@gmail.com with the subject "Correction" and a link to the page. We check it against the sources and fix confirmed errors.
